Description
The Scientific Literacy of young people in Portugal was assessed as a problematic aspect compared to the average of other OECD countries (OECD, PISA, 2012). Thus, the main objective of the Promotion of Scientific Literacy project focused on creating strategies to increase the level of scientific literacy since relatively early stages of development (basic and secondary education).
This project focused on the hypothesis that the promotion of scientific literacy may largely involve the development of reading and comprehension tools, for which the research in linguistics (texts and discourse) and didactics in Portuguese (namely, what concerns the reading didactics of different genre texts) will play a decisive role.
