New publication: “Mulheres no Discurso – Women in Discourse”
“Mulheres no Discurso – Women in Discourse“, a book recently published by the University of Porto, features two articles by researchers from CLUNL.
The collection of texts brought together in this work offers a rich and multifaceted perspective on how femininity is constructed, represented, and made heard.
As for the articles by CLUNL researchers, specifically, Cláudia Ruas, Antónia Coutinho and Matilde Gonçalves, in “Desconstrução de estereótipos de género no Ensino de Literatura: uma abordagem pedagógica interventiva” (Deconstructing gender stereotypes in literature teaching: an interventional pedagogical approach), propose a kind of research focused on the teaching of literature as a space for social transformation. Through an action-research methodology in a school context, the authors evaluate the impact of a critical approach on students’ perceptions of gender stereotypes, demonstrating how literary reading can promote inclusive, reflective, and emancipatory awareness.Ana Sofia Souto, in her study entitled “The importance of modalization in four manifestos produced by UMAR,” analyzes the role of linguistic modalization in the manifestos of the Portuguese feminist association UMAR. The author demonstrates how the choice of certain discursive resources contributes to questioning, criticizing, and calling for action, highlighting the power of language as an instrument of social and utopian intervention. The analysis reveals a strategic articulation between epistemic and deontic modalization, sustaining a discourse of denunciation and collective mobilization toward a more egalitarian and inclusive future.
