Description, Objectives and Expected Results
The Research Center for Linguistics at NOVA University Lisbon (CLUNL) is a research unit within the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon dedicated to the study of languages and language in their multiple dimensions.
The funding granted to the Research Center for Linguistics at NOVA University Lisbon (CLUNL) aims to strengthen the technical and scientific conditions required for the development of advanced research in the Language Sciences. The investment includes the modernization of research infrastructures, the acquisition of high-performance computing equipment, specialized software for linguistic data analysis and processing, speech recording and collection equipment, and the improvement of laboratory conditions for experimental research.
The main objectives of this project are to increase the capacity for production, processing, and storage of scientific data; to support Open Science and the development of digital linguistic resources; to improve conditions for conducting experimental studies in linguistics; to strengthen quantitative and qualitative data analysis methodologies; and to promote more collaborative, sustainable, and technologically up-to-date research environments.
The creation of appropriate conditions for the collection and analysis of speech, language, and communication data will allow the expansion of research carried out at CLUNL in areas such as corpus linguistics, experimental phonetics and phonology, language acquisition and processing, clinical linguistics, digital humanities, and computational processing of language. The investment will also support advanced training activities, contributing to the development of technical skills among researchers, doctoral students, and other members of the unit.
This reinforcement of scientific infrastructure is expected to increase the quality and efficiency of research activities, enhance participation in national and international projects, promote the production of high-value linguistic resources and data, and ensure better conditions for the preservation, sharing, and reuse of results. The project will also contribute to strengthening CLUNL’s capacity to address emerging scientific challenges and to conduct research with scientific, social, and technological impact.
