in this article, Susana Duarte Martins discusses the epistemological assumptions underlying the treatment of the definition, as an activity and a result, considering the main points highlighted in different theories from Classical Antiquity to contemporary times: the entity to be defined, the definition of definition and its typologies, methods and rules for the formulation of good definitions, as well as its boundaries.
