EUTOPIA launches new edition of the Co-tutelle PhD Programme

The Research Center for Linguistics at NOVA University Lisbon (CLUNL) wishes to highlight the opening of the 2026 edition of the EUTOPIA PhD in Co-tutelle Programme — an opportunity for researchers looking to develop doctoral projects in partnership with some of Europe’s leading universities. The initiative is part of the EUTOPIA academic alliance, of which NOVA University Lisbon is a member institution.

The programme seeks to deepen collaboration between partner institutions and build a research ecosystem with international reach. In this year’s edition, NOVA joins projects as a Host Institution under a co-tutelle arrangement, with the following universities offering open positions:

  • CY Cergy Paris Université (4 positions, deadline: 10 May)
  • University of Warwick (5 positions, deadline: 20 May)
  • Babeș-Bolyai University (5 positions, deadline: 11 May)
  • Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (5 positions, deadline to be confirmed, opening 26 March).

These doctoral scholarships support high-quality, high-impact research projects with a duration of three to four years, with the possibility of carrying out part of the work at NOVA. Upon successful completion, candidates will be awarded a doctoral degree jointly by NOVA and the EUTOPIA partner institution under a co-tutelle agreement.

Applications must be submitted through the respective host institution’s platforms. In most cases, proposals are put forward by supervisors — with the exception of Ca’ Foscari, where candidates apply directly. Researchers interested in involving NOVA and CLUNL in their project can find further information and assess their eligibility by contacting eutopia.phd@unl.pt.
