NOVA CLUNL project won european funding
Raquel Amaro, researcher at the Linguistics Research Centre of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA CLUNL), will coordinate the iRead4Skills project, one of the three distinguished by the Horizon Europe program on the topic A sustainable future for Europe. With funding of 2.7 million euros, this is the first collaborative project of the Framework Programme where NOVA FCSH assumes the role of coordinator, with about 415 thousand euros.
The project “iRead4Skills – Intelligent Reading Improvement System for Fundamental and Transversal Skills Development” aims to assess and reduce gaps in the reading skills of adults with low literacy skills by establishing and monitoring the relationship between improvement in these skills and other basic and transferable skills.
“The project arises from the understanding that reading skills are fundamental to acquiring technical and scientific knowledge, whether in formal education and training contexts or in practical and empirical work contexts,” explains Raquel Amaro. In a context of innovative research on social and economic transformations, the “international team will develop an intelligent reading system that assesses the complexity of texts and suggests appropriate readings according to the user’s literacy level, promoting the development of reading skills,” adds the researcher.
Coordinated by NOVA FCSH, the consortium is composed of eight other entities: INESC-ID – Institute for Systems Engineering and Computers, Research and Development in Lisbon; Ministry of Education and Science; Université Catholique de Louvain; Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona; Universidad de Santiago de Compostela; Mindshaker – Serviços Informáticos, Lda and LISER – Luxembourg Institute of Socioeconomic Research.
